W3C Standards Compliance
To ensure consistency between different types of computer systems (Windows PC, Apple Mac, Linux, Unix etc.) and the different programs used, the W3C (World Wide Web Consortium) set about defining a set of Standards which would be used on the World Wide Web.
These standards define the rules for writing code such as HTML, XHTML, XML, JavaScript & CSS. These technologies form the building blocks of the web, therefore, by standardising them we can ensure compatibility between a range of different computer systems and applications.
For example, by ensuring the Web Sites we build conform to W3C Standards, we can ensure that our web sites will be supported by all the "Standards Compliant" web browsers such as Internet Explorer, Netscape, Firefox, Opera & Mozilla.
Not only can we ensure that our web sites will be supported by current Standards Compliant browsers, we can also ensure that future versions (even those not yet released) will also support our web sites because all will be Standards Compliant.
This reduces your cost of ownership as you will not have to modify your web site just to ensure its compatibility with the latest release of Internet Explorer.
